The National Skill Development Corporation India, (NSDC) is a one of its kind, Public Private Partnership in India under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India. It aims to promote skill development by catalysing creation of large, quality, for-profit vocational institutions.
NSDC was set up as part of a National Skill Development mission to fulfil the growing need in India for skilled manpower across sectors and narrow the existing gap between the demand and supply of skills. National Policy on Skill Development (NPSD) approved by the Government has set a target for skilling 500 million persons by the year 2022.
The objective of NSDC is to skill/ upskill 150 million people in India, including persons from rural areas by the year 2022, mainly by fostering private sector initiatives in skill development programs and providing viability gap funding. NSDC would cover skills from the organized as well as from the un-organized sectors.
