THE GEORGE TELEGRAPH in association with British Council, Premier League,UK, Kolkata Police, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, AIFF & The IFA (W.B. set up a unit of football training centre named 'KOLKATA GOALZ" at Christopher park, tangra, identified by the Kolkata Police as one of the crime prone zones of kolkata, to extend their helping hand towards the hard to engage street children.
The main aim of this project is to attract these children using the mass appeal of football,and professional football club, motivate and guide them back to the main stream of the society.
The initiative has been taken applauded by the Chief Minister of West Bengal. British Council, Premier League,UK, Kolkata Police, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, AIFF & The IFA have vouched their support to make the project successful.
The inaugural function will be held on Friday 16th of September 2011.
The programme was graced by the august presence of Mr. Ranjit Kumar Pachananda, Commissioner of Kolkata Police, Mrs. Sujata Sen, Director East, British Council, Mr. Debashis Roy, Additional Commissioner of Kolkata Police,Mr. Basab Dasgupta Deputy Commissioner South East, Kolkata Police, Mr. Subrata Dutta, Senior Vice President, A.I.F.F., Mr. Ramendu Chattopadhyay Vice President Tower George Telegraph Sports Club, Mr Anirban Dutta, Assistant General Secretary, Tower George Telegraph Sports Club. Mr. Sabbir Ali, Coach of Bengal Team and Dhyanchand Awardee. Mr Biswajit Bhattacharya Former India National Footballer and Club coach, Krishnendu Roy, Former India National Footballer, and many celebrity players of national repute.
